The conditions on Tuesday were excellent. On this first day we sculpt only
from 11 am - 5pm.
Every team starts with a 20-ton 12-foot high block of compacted, machine-made snow.
We can use no additional snow and no power tools.
Our first goal was to transfer some blocks of snow to the top to
add some height.
This was tedious and difficult work, and took almost the whole day.
At the right is Robert Longhurst with one of the teams's special
shovels.
At the bottom Dan Schwalbe and Stan Wagon work on arranging the blocks
that extend the height.
