Kluane poppy (Papaver radicatum subsp. kluanensis)
These are very rare in Summit County; I found them on Hoosier Ridge, July 6, 2008 (and July 4, 2009, and June 25, 2013, and July 10, 2015, and July 4, 2016). Coordinates are: 39° 21’ 32.5”, 106° 2’ 20” (36.35985, 106.04256).
My new lens can get close. This is the closest possible shot with the lens (100 mm, fixed focal length, macro).
And this one from June 16, 2018, using my new SONY A6500 mirrorless with 90 mm macro lens.
Here are two unpopped poppies.
A backlit poppy.
All the preceding are from July 4, 2016. One below are with older more standard lens.
Here is a better photo, from the Continental Divide ridge north of North Mt Massive, July 20, 2008.
And on July 19, 2009, we found many clumps like the following on the eastern slopes of North Mt. Massive, just below the summit.
And again from North Mt Massive, on July 5, 2010. This was early and we saw many pods and many with green veils, as they had just popped.
And again from N Mt. Massive, on July 20, 2011, at about 14100 feet.
Below: Hoosier Ridge, July 4, 2014. They were quite numerous.
Below: Hoosier Ridge, July 6, 2021. More numerous than I have ever seen.
