Lee’s Ferry
The Last Horseshoe. This view shows a horseshoe bend and many other interesting features. Lee’s Ferry is the cluster of buildings at lower right. The ancient ferry service, run by infamous John Doyle Lee, was based there in 18XX. The light-colored ramp on the other side is Shinarump. The reddish slopes above it are Chinle. At far upper right is an edge of the Vermilion Cliffs (Chinle, Moenave, Kayenta, Navajo formations. The Paria river enters at right center, carrying a heavy load of silt. The Colorado’s waters are clear because the silt is filtered out by Lake Powell and the Glen Canyon Dam. Below: a closer view of the Paria’s entrance. The Paris is a remarkably long river (about 95 miles long), originating near Bryce National Park.
