Escape from Fold

The gully below -- about 600 feet of mostly class 3, but with some 10-foot class 4 sections -- is how one leaves the Fold confluence area to reach the high ground, which then leads down into Shofar Canyon. This route is not in any guidebook, but works quite well. Fortunately, the rain paused during our afternoon ascent. We camped just above the top of this route.  (Photo: Katie Larson.)
