Frog

We found a colony of frogs in a large pothole. One jumped right over another on the vertical wall: I guess that is where the term "leapfrog" comes from. A close look shows that he (or she) is wearing rock shoes: a sticky substance under the toes. I believe this is a spadefoot toad (Scaphiopodidae). It spends most of its life hibernating in the sand, awaiting moisture.
