A Long-Ago Climb on Whitney's East Face (5.4)
Sandy Kline prepares to lead a pitch high on the classic East Face route on Mt. Whitney. This was in the days when 14000 feet seemed high to me, and I recall having a good headache while belaying here. We summitted in plenty of time to get down, but two years later with another group of three we summitted at 6 pm and barely got down to camp before night. Photo: Alan Durfee.
