Edwards: N Side

Most skiers at the Grays Peak trailhead aim for one of the two big ones. But Edwards, on the left side of the valley is a worthy objective (13850 feet) and offers good skiing. Scott Thompson, who provided this photo, and Jason Ivanic skied the prominent line that descends from (viewer's) right of the summit, and they recommend it. They ascended by booting up the ski run. Gerry Roach calls this gully Goatfinger: when he climbed it goats at the top knocked several rocks into the gully near him.

June 5, 2004: Bob Portmann and I booted up to the top of the couloir, but it was too thin at the top for skiing. We went to the summit and then returned to the west edge of the couloir and descended a bit to find a good drop-in place. It all worked out, but it would be much better with more coverage. Total climb was 2500 feet and we felt it was a worthwhile day. The photo below shows the couloir on the day we climbed and skied it. Edwards's summit is in Summit County, but the ski line is in Clear Creek County.
