Moby Dick and Pequod

Moby Dick in the rear. The snowy slopes of the upper Pequod Glacier in front of Moby Dick were the location of the last ski tour of the week (see photo below), one of our best tours ever at Battle Abbey. We went to two cols just in front of Moby Dick, quite close to the summit of Pequod Peak, which is barely visible against the lower east ridge of Moby Dick. At far left is Typee, an easy ski summit with superb views and a great descent line on its north side. At the end of our traverse we crossed under the north face of Typee, just below the rocks. The corniced snow peak just right of Typee is Forecastle, which appears to be an easy snow climb from the north. In 2015 David Nebel and I, with guide Pierre Hungr, climbed Moby Dick in August.
