Avalanche and Helicopter Evacuation

The slab avalanche is visible behind the helicopter and it took Martin down hard and injured his knee. We were fortunate to get satellite phone signal as the sat phone was not really working properly, and a nearby helicopter sped in for the pickup. This is the first evacuation I have been involved in in my 28 years of mountaineering and skiing. Martin required surgery to repair a knee ligament.
