The Crux

This view from the Haworth Glacier shows the two problems that faced us on the next day, as we crossed to Fairy Meadows. The low ridge is Azimuth Ridge, and our route goes via the snowy knoll just right of the cliffy section. Directly behind that knoll (upper center of photo) is Thor Peak, and the snowy couloir to its left is Thor Pass. The last 300 feet in this couloir were difficult. The crossing from hut to hut took us 12 hours, with 4300 feet of climb.
