One Week to Go: Wed, Jan. 16

Construction of the blocks is complicated: Snow is made on the ski hill, trucked down, dumped, and then blown into forms. Residents stomp the snow several times to ensure it is hard packed. Its final density is about one half that of solid ice. There will be 16 teams from the United States, Canada, Mexico, Netherlands, China, France, Germany, Spain, and Lithuania. The last three of the next four pictures are actually from 2009, and were taken by Rich Seeley who, along with Beth Seeley and other friends, helped stomp the snow into the blocks.

The blocks are now completed and awaiting their transformation by teams from around the world.
