Day -2 (Sunday)

The blocks are up and ready, and work on our practice block has gone well. By the end of Monday we will have some information about the strength of our design. Here are some nice shots of the intimidating 12-foot high blocks of highly compacted snow. (Photos: Rich Seeley). It appears that some new teams will be joining the group this year: Turkey, the Czech Republic, Oregon, in addition to familiar teams from New York, Colorado, Switzerland, Mexico, Canada, Idaho, Alaska, and Wisconsin.

It takes me almost a month to make our little practice block, whose volume is 1/15 that of these 20-ton behemoths. But, just like in the actual sculpting part of the contest, I use no power tools.
